{"id":"AZL-11523","summary":"CVE-2022-45873 affecting package systemd for versions less than 250.3-12","details":"systemd 250 and 251 allows local users to achieve a systemd-coredump deadlock by triggering a crash that has a long backtrace. This occurs in parse_elf_object in shared/elf-util.c. The exploitation methodology is to crash a binary calling the same function recursively, and put it in a deeply nested directory to make its backtrace large enough to cause the deadlock. This must be done 16 times when MaxConnections=16 is set for the systemd/units/systemd-coredump.socket file.","modified":"2026-04-01T05:07:07.126834Z","published":"2022-11-23T23:15:10Z","upstream":["CVE-2022-45873"],"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2022-45873"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"systemd","ecosystem":"Azure Linux:2","purl":"pkg:rpm/azure-linux/systemd"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"250.3-12"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/microsoft/AzureLinuxVulnerabilityData/blob/main/osv/AZL-11523.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H"}]}
