{"id":"CVE-2016-2367","details":"An information leak exists in the handling of the MXIT protocol in Pidgin. Specially crafted MXIT data sent via the server could potentially result in an out-of-bounds read. A malicious user, server, or man-in-the-middle can send an invalid size for an avatar which will trigger an out-of-bounds read vulnerability. This could result in a denial of service or copy data from memory to the file, resulting in an information leak if the avatar is sent to another user.","modified":"2026-03-12T22:16:28.660033Z","published":"2017-01-06T21:59:00.603Z","related":["MGASA-2016-0236","SUSE-SU-2016:2416-1"],"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"http://www.debian.org/security/2016/dsa-3620"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/91335"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"http://www.talosintelligence.com/reports/TALOS-2016-0135/"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/USN-3031-1"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/201701-38"},{"type":"FIX","url":"http://www.pidgin.im/news/security/?id=100"}],"affected":[{"database_specific":{"unresolved_ranges":[{"events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"last_affected":"2.10.12"}]},{"events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"last_affected":"12.04"}]},{"events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"last_affected":"14.04"}]},{"events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"last_affected":"15.10"}]},{"events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"last_affected":"8.0"}]}],"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2016-2367.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H"}]}
