{"id":"CVE-2026-42579","summary":"Netty: DNS Codec Input Validation Bypass in Netty (Encoder + Decoder)","details":"Netty is an asynchronous, event-driven network application framework. Prior to 4.2.13.Final and 4.1.133.Final, Netty's DNS codec does not enforce RFC 1035 domain name constraints during either encoding or decoding. This creates a bidirectional attack surface: malicious DNS responses can exploit the decoder, and user-influenced hostnames can exploit the encoder. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.2.13.Final and 4.1.133.Final.","aliases":["GHSA-cm33-6792-r9fm"],"modified":"2026-05-20T04:03:09.620619313Z","published":"2026-05-13T18:01:52.500Z","related":["CGA-2wp9-q2jp-vfj4","openSUSE-SU-2026:10795-1"],"database_specific":{"cwe_ids":["CWE-20","CWE-400","CWE-626"],"osv_generated_from":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/42xxx/CVE-2026-42579.json","cna_assigner":"GitHub_M"},"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/42xxx/CVE-2026-42579.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/netty/netty/security/advisories/GHSA-cm33-6792-r9fm"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-42579"}],"affected":[{"ranges":[{"type":"GIT","repo":"https://github.com/netty/netty","events":[{"introduced":"5451fbb0effd8460f57013bb33aefeb953144ed9"},{"fixed":"fb13125f135ab53203513ff603872a3abe84d38d"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-42579.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N"}]}
