{"id":"CVE-2026-44432","summary":"urllib3: Decompression-bomb safeguards bypassed in parts of the streaming API","details":"urllib3 is an HTTP client library for Python. From 2.6.0 to before 2.7.0, urllib3 could decompress the whole response instead of the requested portion (1) during the second HTTPResponse.read(amt=N) call when the response was decompressed using the official Brotli library or (2) when HTTPResponse.drain_conn() was called after the response had been read and decompressed partially (compression algorithm did not matter here). These issues could cause urllib3 to fully decode a small amount of highly compressed data in a single operation. This could result in excessive resource consumption (high CPU usage and massive memory allocation for the decompressed data) on the client side. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.7.0.","aliases":["GHSA-mf9v-mfxr-j63j","PYSEC-2026-142"],"modified":"2026-05-20T08:11:44.158827422Z","published":"2026-05-13T15:17:12.611Z","related":["CGA-jc89-hf9m-4f4f","openSUSE-SU-2026:10798-1"],"database_specific":{"cwe_ids":["CWE-409"],"cna_assigner":"GitHub_M","osv_generated_from":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/44xxx/CVE-2026-44432.json"},"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/44xxx/CVE-2026-44432.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/urllib3/urllib3/security/advisories/GHSA-mf9v-mfxr-j63j"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-44432"}],"affected":[{"ranges":[{"type":"GIT","repo":"https://github.com/urllib3/urllib3","events":[{"introduced":"720f484b605f18887a48eef448d0084e2b76902d"},{"fixed":"9a950b92d999f906b6020bb2d1076ee56cddd5d2"}]}],"versions":["2.6.3","2.6.2","2.6.1","2.6.0"],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-44432.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V4","score":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:H"}]}
