{"id":"CVE-2026-45938","summary":"power: supply: pm8916_lbc: Fix use-after-free in power_supply_changed()","details":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\npower: supply: pm8916_lbc: Fix use-after-free in power_supply_changed()\n\nUsing the `devm_` variant for requesting IRQ _before_ the `devm_`\nvariant for allocating/registering the `power_supply` handle, means that\nthe `power_supply` handle will be deallocated/unregistered _before_ the\ninterrupt handler (since `devm_` naturally deallocates in reverse\nallocation order). This means that during removal, there is a race\ncondition where an interrupt can fire just _after_ the `power_supply`\nhandle has been freed, *but* just _before_ the corresponding\nunregistration of the IRQ handler has run.\n\nThis will lead to the IRQ handler calling `power_supply_changed()` with\na freed `power_supply` handle. Which usually crashes the system or\notherwise silently corrupts the memory...\n\nNote that there is a similar situation which can also happen during\n`probe()`; the possibility of an interrupt firing _before_ registering\nthe `power_supply` handle. This would then lead to the nasty situation\nof using the `power_supply` handle *uninitialized* in\n`power_supply_changed()`.\n\nFix this racy use-after-free by making sure the IRQ is requested _after_\nthe registration of the `power_supply` handle.","modified":"2026-06-26T11:56:40.466896385Z","published":"2026-05-27T12:17:54.812Z","database_specific":{"cna_assigner":"Linux","osv_generated_from":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/45xxx/CVE-2026-45938.json"},"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/08e674e9862a2db46fb234eb7c5442455ece0131"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/b7508129978ae1e2ed9b0410396abc05def9c4eb"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/d7d31fc99d248d5f47588f50dce5c7599c991c6a"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/dbe579e620ef0f53db490ec79a8566e4ea8918ac"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/45xxx/CVE-2026-45938.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-45938"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git"}],"affected":[{"ranges":[{"type":"GIT","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","events":[{"introduced":"f8d7a3d21160a0cab4d15b81231f2a76b0fcee13"},{"fixed":"dbe579e620ef0f53db490ec79a8566e4ea8918ac"},{"fixed":"08e674e9862a2db46fb234eb7c5442455ece0131"},{"fixed":"d7d31fc99d248d5f47588f50dce5c7599c991c6a"},{"fixed":"b7508129978ae1e2ed9b0410396abc05def9c4eb"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-45938.json"}},{"package":{"name":"Kernel","ecosystem":"Linux"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.7.0"},{"fixed":"6.12.75"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.13.0"},{"fixed":"6.18.14"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.19.0"},{"fixed":"6.19.4"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-45938.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5"}
