{"id":"CVE-2026-68197","summary":"wifi: mwifiex: fix NULL dereference when the AP has HT-cap but no HT-oper","details":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nwifi: mwifiex: fix NULL dereference when the AP has HT-cap but no HT-oper\n\nmwifiex_tdls_add_ht_oper() gates its follow-the-AP-bandwidth path on\nbss_desc-\u003ebcn_ht_cap being present, but then dereferences a different\npointer, bss_desc-\u003ebcn_ht_oper:\n\n\tif (ISSUPP_CHANWIDTH40(priv-\u003eadapter-\u003ehw_dot_11n_dev_cap) &&\n\t    bss_desc-\u003ebcn_ht_cap &&\n\t    ISALLOWED_CHANWIDTH40(bss_desc-\u003ebcn_ht_oper-\u003eht_param))\n\nbcn_ht_cap and bcn_ht_oper are populated independently while parsing the\nassociated AP's beacon in mwifiex_update_bss_desc_with_ie(): an AP that\nadvertises an HT Capabilities element but no HT Operation element leaves\nbcn_ht_cap non-NULL and bcn_ht_oper NULL. Setting up a TDLS link to a\npeer while associated to such an AP then dereferences the NULL\nbcn_ht_oper and crashes the kernel. Every other bcn_ht_oper user in the\ndriver NULL-checks it first.\n\nGuard on the pointer that is actually dereferenced.\n\nFound by 0sec automated security-research tooling (https://0sec.ai).","modified":"2026-08-21T03:30:10.557445077Z","published":"2026-08-10T12:00:15.750Z","database_specific":{"cna_assigner":"Linux","osv_generated_from":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/68xxx/CVE-2026-68197.json"},"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/45011e4d9ba3f2182e5df64be65888044fa20771"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/8c2058717fd06f05d421c2d3adf1dff3c3abcda1"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/9375a4ea4121625ef27a46b74781cda66a5cc61b"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/c3d68e294cbb6a4090bb219d3dcaca85a011809b"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/cca4398aa305c22016d1714f388e2fa6ea4e5ad4"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/e1770f7410b4232a0267924f99751dc9c5ca31af"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/eb42c3c8fd479166c42984728754cd779c71fd60"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/fba7eb7b248ea0618235f504158b685d752a153a"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/68xxx/CVE-2026-68197.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-68197"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git"}],"affected":[{"ranges":[{"type":"GIT","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","events":[{"introduced":"396939f94084d5923d558e9f22db48bc51156e47"},{"fixed":"e1770f7410b4232a0267924f99751dc9c5ca31af"},{"fixed":"8c2058717fd06f05d421c2d3adf1dff3c3abcda1"},{"fixed":"fba7eb7b248ea0618235f504158b685d752a153a"},{"fixed":"eb42c3c8fd479166c42984728754cd779c71fd60"},{"fixed":"45011e4d9ba3f2182e5df64be65888044fa20771"},{"fixed":"9375a4ea4121625ef27a46b74781cda66a5cc61b"},{"fixed":"cca4398aa305c22016d1714f388e2fa6ea4e5ad4"},{"fixed":"c3d68e294cbb6a4090bb219d3dcaca85a011809b"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-68197.json"}},{"package":{"name":"Kernel","ecosystem":"Linux"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"3.16.0"},{"fixed":"5.10.265"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"5.11.0"},{"fixed":"5.15.216"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"5.16.0"},{"fixed":"6.1.183"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.2.0"},{"fixed":"6.6.148"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.7.0"},{"fixed":"6.12.101"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.13.0"},{"fixed":"6.18.42"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.19.0"},{"fixed":"7.1.6"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-68197.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0"}
