{"id":"DEBIAN-CVE-2017-9048","details":"libxml2 20904-GITv2.9.4-16-g0741801 is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow. The function xmlSnprintfElementContent in valid.c is supposed to recursively dump the element content definition into a char buffer 'buf' of size 'size'. At the end of the routine, the function may strcat two more characters without checking whether the current strlen(buf) + 2 \u003c size. This vulnerability causes programs that use libxml2, such as PHP, to crash.","modified":"2026-09-01T16:04:28.530618426Z","published":"2017-05-18T06:29:00.433Z","upstream":["CVE-2017-9048"],"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2017-9048"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"libxml2","ecosystem":"Debian:12","purl":"pkg:deb/debian/libxml2?arch=source&distro=bookworm"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"2.9.4+dfsg1-3.1"}]}],"ecosystem_specific":{"urgency":"not yet assigned"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-debian-osv/debian-cve-osv/DEBIAN-CVE-2017-9048.json"}},{"package":{"name":"libxml2","ecosystem":"Debian:13","purl":"pkg:deb/debian/libxml2?arch=source&distro=trixie"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"2.9.4+dfsg1-3.1"}]}],"ecosystem_specific":{"urgency":"not yet assigned"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-debian-osv/debian-cve-osv/DEBIAN-CVE-2017-9048.json"}},{"package":{"name":"libxml2","ecosystem":"Debian:14","purl":"pkg:deb/debian/libxml2?arch=source&distro=forky"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"2.9.4+dfsg1-3.1"}]}],"ecosystem_specific":{"urgency":"not yet assigned"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-debian-osv/debian-cve-osv/DEBIAN-CVE-2017-9048.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H"}]}
