{"id":"DEBIAN-CVE-2024-26654","details":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:  ALSA: sh: aica: reorder cleanup operations to avoid UAF bugs  The dreamcastcard-\u003etimer could schedule the spu_dma_work and the spu_dma_work could also arm the dreamcastcard-\u003etimer.  When the snd_pcm_substream is closing, the aica_channel will be deallocated. But it could still be dereferenced in the worker thread. The reason is that del_timer() will return directly regardless of whether the timer handler is running or not and the worker could be rescheduled in the timer handler. As a result, the UAF bug will happen. The racy situation is shown below:        (Thread 1)                 |      (Thread 2) snd_aicapcm_pcm_close()          |  ...                             |  run_spu_dma() //worker                                  |    mod_timer()   flush_work()                   |   del_timer()                    |  aica_period_elapsed() //timer   kfree(dreamcastcard-\u003echannel)  |    schedule_work()                                  |  run_spu_dma() //worker   ...                            |    dreamcastcard-\u003echannel-\u003e //USE  In order to mitigate this bug and other possible corner cases, call mod_timer() conditionally in run_spu_dma(), then implement PCM sync_stop op to cancel both the timer and worker. The sync_stop op will be called from PCM core appropriately when needed.","modified":"2026-09-15T09:03:04.897427196Z","published":"2024-04-01T09:15:51.063Z","upstream":["CVE-2024-26654"],"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2024-26654"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"linux","ecosystem":"Debian:12","purl":"pkg:deb/debian/linux?arch=source&distro=bookworm"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"6.1.85-1"}]}],"versions":["6.1.27-1","6.1.37-1","6.1.38-1","6.1.38-2","6.1.38-2~bpo11+1","6.1.38-3","6.1.38-4","6.1.38-4~bpo11+1","6.1.52-1","6.1.55-1","6.1.55-1~bpo11+1","6.1.64-1","6.1.66-1","6.1.67-1","6.1.69-1","6.1.69-1~bpo11+1","6.1.76-1","6.1.76-1~bpo11+1","6.1.82-1"],"ecosystem_specific":{"urgency":"not yet assigned"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-debian-osv/debian-cve-osv/DEBIAN-CVE-2024-26654.json"}},{"package":{"name":"linux","ecosystem":"Debian:13","purl":"pkg:deb/debian/linux?arch=source&distro=trixie"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"6.7.12-1"}]}],"ecosystem_specific":{"urgency":"not yet assigned"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-debian-osv/debian-cve-osv/DEBIAN-CVE-2024-26654.json"}},{"package":{"name":"linux","ecosystem":"Debian:14","purl":"pkg:deb/debian/linux?arch=source&distro=forky"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"6.7.12-1"}]}],"ecosystem_specific":{"urgency":"not yet assigned"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-debian-osv/debian-cve-osv/DEBIAN-CVE-2024-26654.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H"}]}
