{"id":"DEBIAN-CVE-2025-62518","details":"astral-tokio-tar is a tar archive reading/writing library for async Rust. Versions of astral-tokio-tar prior to 0.5.6 contain a boundary parsing vulnerability that allows attackers to smuggle additional archive entries by exploiting inconsistent PAX/ustar header handling. When processing archives with PAX-extended headers containing size overrides, the parser incorrectly advances stream position based on ustar header size (often zero) instead of the PAX-specified size, causing it to interpret file content as legitimate tar headers. This issue has been patched in version 0.5.6. There are no workarounds.","modified":"2026-08-27T23:05:35.203009084Z","published":"2025-10-21T17:15:40.563Z","upstream":["CVE-2025-62518"],"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2025-62518"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"rust-astral-tokio-tar","ecosystem":"Debian:13","purl":"pkg:deb/debian/rust-astral-tokio-tar?arch=source&distro=trixie"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["0.5.2-2","0.5.5-1","0.5.6-1","0.5.6-2","0.6.0-1","0.6.1-1","0.6.2-1","0.6.4-1"],"ecosystem_specific":{"urgency":"not yet assigned"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-debian-osv/debian-cve-osv/DEBIAN-CVE-2025-62518.json"}},{"package":{"name":"rust-astral-tokio-tar","ecosystem":"Debian:14","purl":"pkg:deb/debian/rust-astral-tokio-tar?arch=source&distro=forky"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"0.5.6-1"}]}],"versions":["0.5.2-2","0.5.5-1"],"ecosystem_specific":{"urgency":"not yet assigned"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-debian-osv/debian-cve-osv/DEBIAN-CVE-2025-62518.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N"}]}
