{"id":"DEBIAN-CVE-2026-84185","details":"A flaw was found in the jwcrypto library, which is used for implementing Javascript Object Signing and Encryption (JOSE) standards. The issue occurs when the library verifies a General JSON Serialization JWS using a set of keys. Due to a coding error, the library fails to correctly identify the specific key ID (kid) and may instead accept a signature made by any valid key in the set. This can allow an attacker with a valid key to bypass authorization checks in applications that rely on the key ID to identify specific tenants or users.","modified":"2026-09-19T18:00:07.061985673Z","published":"2026-09-03T21:17:22.687Z","upstream":["CVE-2026-84185"],"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2026-84185"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"python-jwcrypto","ecosystem":"Debian:13","purl":"pkg:deb/debian/python-jwcrypto?arch=source&distro=trixie"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["1.5.6-1","1.5.6-1.1","1.5.6-1.1~deb13u1","1.5.6-1.2"],"ecosystem_specific":{"urgency":"not yet assigned"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-debian-osv/debian-cve-osv/DEBIAN-CVE-2026-84185.json"}},{"package":{"name":"python-jwcrypto","ecosystem":"Debian:14","purl":"pkg:deb/debian/python-jwcrypto?arch=source&distro=forky"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["1.5.6-1","1.5.6-1.1","1.5.6-1.1~deb13u1","1.5.6-1.2"],"ecosystem_specific":{"urgency":"not yet assigned"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/osv-test-debian-osv/debian-cve-osv/DEBIAN-CVE-2026-84185.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:N"}]}
