{"id":"RHLW-2026-c69885b4933c8262","summary":"Lightwell Security Advisory: xstream 1.4.18.rhlw-00006","details":"Red Hat Lightwell has released com.thoughtworks.xstream:xstream 1.4.18.rhlw-00006 with backported fixes for CVE-2021-43859, CVE-2022-41966, and CVE-2024-47072.\n\nCVE-2021-43859: XStream is an open source java library to serialize objects to XML and back again. Versions prior to 1.4.19 may allow a remote attacker to allocate 100% CPU time on the target system depending on CPU type or parallel execution of such a payload resulting in a denial of service only by manipulating the processed input stream. XStream 1.4.19 monitors and accumulates the time it takes to add elements to collections and throws an exception if a set threshold is exceeded. Users are advised to upgrade as soon as possible. Users unable to upgrade may set the NO_REFERENCE mode to prevent recursion. See GHSA-rmr5-cpv2-vgjf for further details on a workaround if an upgrade is not possible.\n\nCVE-2022-41966: XStream Denial of Service via stack overflow \n\nCVE-2024-47072: XStream is vulnerable to a Denial of Service attack due to stack overflow from a manipulated binary input stream\n\nThis patched artifact is a drop-in replacement for com.thoughtworks.xstream:xstream 1.4.18 from Maven Central.","modified":"2026-10-22T00:08:30.141523910Z","published":"2026-09-24T16:39:11Z","upstream":["CVE-2021-43859","CVE-2022-41966","CVE-2024-47072","GHSA-hfq9-hggm-c56q","GHSA-j563-grx4-pjpv","GHSA-rmr5-cpv2-vgjf"],"references":[{"type":"FIX","url":"https://github.com/x-stream/xstream/commit/e8e88621ba1c85ac3b8620337dd672e0c0c3a846"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/x-stream/xstream/security/advisories/GHSA-rmr5-cpv2-vgjf"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2021-43859"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-rmr5-cpv2-vgjf"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2022/41xxx/CVE-2022-41966.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/x-stream/xstream/security/advisories/GHSA-j563-grx4-pjpv"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2022-41966"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-j563-grx4-pjpv"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2024/47xxx/CVE-2024-47072.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/x-stream/xstream/security/advisories/GHSA-hfq9-hggm-c56q"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2024-47072"},{"type":"FIX","url":"https://github.com/x-stream/xstream/commit/bb838ce2269cac47433e31c77b2b236466e9f266"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-hfq9-hggm-c56q"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"com.thoughtworks.xstream:xstream","ecosystem":"Red Hat Lightwell:Maven","purl":"pkg:maven/com.thoughtworks.xstream/xstream"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"1.4.18.rhlw-00006"}]}],"versions":["0.1","0.2","0.3","0.5","0.6","1.0","1.0.1","1.0.2","1.1","1.1.1","1.1.2","1.1.3","1.2","1.2.1","1.2.2","1.3","1.3.1","1.4","1.4.1","1.4.10","1.4.10-java7","1.4.11","1.4.11-java7","1.4.11.1","1.4.12","1.4.12-java7","1.4.13","1.4.13-java7","1.4.14","1.4.14-java7","1.4.14-jdk7","1.4.15","1.4.16","1.4.17","1.4.18","1.4.2","1.4.3","1.4.4","1.4.5","1.4.6","1.4.7","1.4.8","1.4.9"],"database_specific":{"lightwell":{"repository_url":"https://packages.redhat.com/lightwell/java/remediated/","backport_base_version":"1.4.18","remediated_version":"1.4.18.rhlw-00006"},"source":"https://github.com/project-lightwell/lightwell-osv/blob/main/advisories/RHLW-2026-c69885b4933c8262.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.2","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H"}],"credits":[{"name":"Red Hat Lightwell","type":"REMEDIATION_DEVELOPER"}]}
