{"id":"UBUNTU-CVE-2019-6250","details":"A pointer overflow, with code execution, was discovered in ZeroMQ libzmq (aka 0MQ) 4.2.x and 4.3.x before 4.3.1. A v2_decoder.cpp zmq::v2_decoder_t::size_ready integer overflow allows an authenticated attacker to overwrite an arbitrary amount of bytes beyond the bounds of a buffer, which can be leveraged to run arbitrary code on the target system. The memory layout allows the attacker to inject OS commands into a data structure located immediately after the problematic buffer (i.e., it is not necessary to use a typical buffer-overflow exploitation technique that changes the flow of control).","modified":"2025-09-08T16:45:16Z","published":"2019-01-13T15:29:00Z","upstream":["CVE-2019-6250"],"references":[{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2019-6250"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://github.com/zeromq/libzmq/issues/3351"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://github.com/zeromq/libzmq/releases/tag/v4.3.1"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2019-6250"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"zeromq3","ecosystem":"Ubuntu:18.04:LTS","purl":"pkg:deb/ubuntu/zeromq3@4.2.5-1ubuntu0.1?arch=source&distro=bionic"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"4.2.5-1ubuntu0.1"}]}],"versions":["4.2.1-4ubuntu1","4.2.2-1ubuntu2","4.2.3-1","4.2.3-1build1","4.2.5-1"],"ecosystem_specific":{"binaries":[{"binary_version":"4.2.5-1ubuntu0.1","binary_name":"libzmq3-dev"},{"binary_version":"4.2.5-1ubuntu0.1","binary_name":"libzmq5"}],"availability":"No subscription required"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-security-notices/blob/main/osv/cve/2019/UBUNTU-CVE-2019-6250.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.3","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H"},{"type":"Ubuntu","score":"medium"}]}
